The Wolverine Starts Filming in Japan

Fox is getting ready to continue their mutant-rich branch of Marvel movies in next Summer’s The Wolverine, which is the sequel to the 2009 spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Word has it that filming has already started at the Zojo-ji Temple in the Shiba neighborhood of the Minato ward in Tokyo, and there is a released on-set photo showing Hugh Jackman with Japanese actress Rila Fukushima.

The Wolverine will follow the Chris Claremont and Frank Miller run on the Wolverine mini-series back in 1982, which finds Logan traveling to Japan and kickstarting a long-running rivalry with the Silver Samurai.

Jidaigeki samurai movie star Hiroyuki Sanada (Yagyu Clan Conspiracy, Lost, The Last Samurai, Speed Racer) plays Shingen Yashida, Will Yun Lee (Die Another Day, Elektra) is Kenuichio Harada/Silver Samurai, while models Tao Okamoto and Rila Fukushima are Mariko Yashida and assassin Yukio, respectively.

The Wolverine is scheduled to hit theaters on July 26, 2013.
