It’s been rumored for a while, but veteran actor William Fichtner has recently gone ahead and confirmed his role as Shredder in the upcoming Michael Bay reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie franchise.
He might not look the part, physically, but Fichtner’s stint as a banker with ties to the mob in The Dark Knight proves that he’s got just the right amount of aggressiveness to pull off a disgruntled former ninja master. He’s going to be covered in armor, anyway so it’s not like it’s going to matter if he can’t look imposing physically.
“I play Shredder,” Fichtner told Huffington Post Canada. “It is cool. It’s one of those things that came along where I thought, “Really? Let me think about this for a minute.” [Laughs] Then I was like, “Yeah, OK, this sounds like a journey.” I’m very glad that it worked out, I’m really glad that I’m doing it.”
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is scheduled to open in the UK on 16 May 2014, with a US release following on 6 June 2014.
