This coming February marks the UK debut of Guillermo Del Toro’s latest horror film Mama, which stars Jessica Chastain (Shelter) and Nicolaj Coster Waldau (The Game of Thrones). The movie is based on creepy three-minute short film of the same title, which follows two girls who are haunted by something they refer to as “Mama”, which is a spindly, vaguely human creature with a bad case of decomposition.
“The short was one of the scariest little scenes I’ve ever seen,” del Toro says. “It was also incredibly well made, very claustrophobic, really, really scary.”
You can watch the video (which includes an introduction by del Toro) below:
If you found the short scary, then you’ll probably love the full length film, which promises to be darker and more chilling than the short, going for atmospheric and jump scares than blood and gore.
Mama opens in cinemas on 22 February 2013.
