It’s common knowledge that Vanessa Hudgens is trying her best to distance herself rom her Disney High school Musical roots. Even without the leaked photo scandal, her recent films – such as the gritty indie Gimme Shelter, the serial killer flick Frozen Ground, or Harmony Korinne’s Spring Breakers – show that the actress is eager to prove that she’s all grown up and ready for mature roles.
As another step in shaking free of her wholesome Disney image, Vanessa Hudgens has just confirmed on her website (http://vanessahudgensofficial.com/) that she has joined Robert Rodriguez’ upcoming “Machete Kills” in the role of Cereza. According to Hudgens, the only thing she knows about the role so far is that the name comes from the Spanish word for “Cherry”.
Based on Hudgen’s announcement, “Machete Kills” now stars Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Demián Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana, Jessica Alba, Alexa Vega, Lady Gaga, Mel Gibson, William Sadler, and probably your pool boy, if he wants to. No release date has been given, but Rodriguez estimates that the film will come out in 2013.
