In a recent interview with The Gate, comic book scribe and Spawn creator Todd McFarlane has confirmed that he has struck a deal to write, produce, and direct a reboot of the Spawn movie, and that the film could go into production as early as 2014.
“I think it’s a quick shoot,” he explained. “It’s not going to be a giant budget with a lot of special effects; it’s going to be more of a horror movie and a thriller movie, not a superhero one.
“I’ve got so many people phoning now that I’ve got to get it done. I’ve made some promises to people this year.”
McFarlane wouldn’t reveal just who he’s spoken with about donning Spawn’s suit this time around, but he did state that many of them are “Academy awards guys” (could that include a certain Jamie Foxx?).
“Once we get this [script] done, we’ll get it off the ground with some big names,” he promises. “[The producers] want me to deliver the script by the end of the year, which would basically mean we’d be shooting next year. So, that’s the goal right now.”
