Timur Bekmambetov is still busy doing the press rounds in order to promote his new movie Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but the director has not shied away from talking a little bit about the sequel to the comic book-inspired actioner, Wanted. For starters, the director has confirmed that it’s going to happen sooner than later.
The current string of rumors involve Angelina Jolie’s character returning (from the dead, it seems) but nothing has been confirmed, with Bekmambetov claiming to have come upon a revelation regarding the direction of the sequel only recently:
“An unbelievable thing happened three weeks ago,” he says, “because we [had] stopped, we didn’t know what to do for three or four years. Three weeks ago I came up with a great idea and I pitched this idea and everybody fell in love with it. And now I think we’re on track. Right now the writer is working on the script, and it will be shocking.”
Bekmambetov also confirmed that the sequel’s story will still focus on James McAvoy’s character from the first film, Wesley Gibson:
“It’s a continuation of the story, with Wesley Gibson,” said the director. “Other people are dead, you know, we can’t bring them back. The story is the same character, same mythology, but it’s got a great twist.”
