Spielberg Accepts Responsibility for Nuking the Fridge 0

Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is remembered not for reviving the dormant Indiana Jones film franchise, but for the ridiculous fridge sequence where Indy protected himself from a nuclear explosion by hiding inside a fridge. The scene became this generation’s “Jumped the Shark.”

In a recent special screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark in LA, Steven Spielberg himself has finally acknowledged people’s hate for the scene, and lightheartedly accepted full responsibility for everything:

“I know in Indy 4, you didn’t buy the refrigerator and the atomic bomb,” began Spielberg. “I know! I know! But we tried. We tried! I was pushing the envelope…

“By the way, I take full responsibility for that,” he continues. “That was completely my idea. Even Harrison said to me, ‘nobody is going to buy this!’”
