With the massive box office success of Iron Man 3 (which currently holds the record for the second biggest opening weekend in the US,) it’s pretty much expected that his voicemail is going to be jampacked with offers from major studios. The first one to make the rounds at the rumor mill is Sony, who have reportedly asked Black to helm their forthcoming film adaptation of Doc Savage.
For those unfamiliar, Doc Savage is the titular hero of a series of pulp novels that were popular in the 30s and 40s, and is sort of a mash-up of Tarzan and Sherlock Holmes as he possess both the former’s physical prowess and the latter’s sleuthing skills.
“We couldn’t be more excited to be building a franchise from the ground up with Shane and this team,” said Columbia Head of Production Hannah Minghella. “Shane and Neal (H. Moritz) have a fantastic understanding of the character and a great take on the material and we can’t wait to get this production up and running.”
