As one of the most recognizable 80s action blockbusters that has yet to receive a modern update, Robocop is certainly due for a remake. Enter MGM, whose recent efforts to revive classic properties include the Death Wish revamp. MGM has announced that a reboot of Robocop is already moving forward, with Gran Torino screenwriter Nick Schenk tapped to write the script.
“I have my take on it,” Padilha recently told Superhero Hype, “And I can tell you this: In the first RoboCop, Alex Murphy is shot, gunned down, then you see some hospitals and stuff and then you cut to him as RoboCop. My movie is between those two cuts.”
“How do you make RoboCop?” he continues. “ How do you slowly bring a guy to be a robot? How do you actually take humanity out of someone and how do you program a brain, so to speak, and how does that affect an individual?”
There are no details regarding the cast yet, but there are rumors floating around linking Michael Fassbender to the project. Production is set to begin later this year, while the movie itself is expected to open at some point in 2013.
