According to Collider, Ridley Scott’s sort-of prequel to the Aliens franchise, Prometheus will be rated R, which means fans who are expecting “chestburster” gore levels can rest assured that the movie will not shy away from showing a few reds and pinks.
Fox has already assured fans in the fast, confirming that the film would not be tinkered with just to achieve a broader certificate, and it seems that they have stayed true to their word, if the little R stub is to be believed.
“I can assure the fans absolutely they can take it that the film will not be compromised either way,” said Fox CEO Tom Rothman last month. “So if that means that the film is R, then it’ll be an R. If it’s PG-13, then it’ll be a PG-13. But it will not be compromised.”
The R Rating isn’t much of a surprise, though, considering the subject matter in the movie as well as the glimpses we’ve seen through the trailers. There is no way they’d be able to tell the story effectively without a few gory scenes. Prometheus will open in the UK on 1 June 2012.
