Last year, one of the weirdest bit of movie-related news was WWE Studios’ plans to reboot the Leprechaun movie franchise, with their pint-sized superstar Hornswoggle in the titular role. News about the project has been scarce since the announcement, but WWE Studios President Michael Luisi recently revealed the plot details for the film, which is now titled Leprechaun: Origins.
“The tone is going to be a little darker,” Luisi told CraveOnline. “A little more traditional horror than the Warwick Davis ones that people remember. [We’re] trying to find a way to please fans of that genre but, at the same time, this is really being played for scares.”
Technically speaking, the WWE is no stranger to horror themes and plots, what with their main product littered with storylines involving the supernatural (Kane, the Undertaker, and Gangrel, for example) and having had movie experience via Kane’s See No Evil, but we just can’t see Hornswoggle as a more effective evil Leprechaun than Warwick Davis.
