Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Fills Directors’ Chairs 0

According to Deadline.com, directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg have been hired by Disney to co-direct the forthcoming 5th installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The duo have managed to beat competion from the likes of Rupert Sanders and Fredrik Bond to secure the position, with both Jerry Bruckheimer and Johnny Depp having signed off on their appointment.

Ronning and Sandberg’s previous work include Kon-Tiki, which is their dramatization of Thor Heyerdal’s epic raft-crossing of the Pacific in 1947. If that doesn’t seem like the kind of project that would fit in well with Pirates of the Caribbean to you, it should be worth noting that Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides was also directed by someone who didn’t have much experience with tentpole blockbusters, Rob Marshall, yet it grossed over $1 billion.
