Shailene Woodley, who was supposed to play Mary Jane Watson in the Amazing Spider-Man 2, has recently expressed disappointment at the role being cut off from the sequel. However, there are no ill feelings involved as the removal had nothing to do with her performance, but by long term planning for the future of the franchise.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly in their forthcoming Divergent issue, Woodley says: “Of course I’m bummed. But I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason… Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand the need for holding off on introducing [Mary Jane] until the next film.”
Marc Webb has recently tried his best to underplay the size of Mary Jane Watson’s role, and considering the recent rumors about Felicity Jones playing the role of Black Cat, it seems like Peter Parker will have a different love interest in his next film outing.
