Now that Marvel’s Phase 2 is underway, people are starting to wonder what else Marvel has got under its sleeve. According to head honcho Kevin Feige, a lot. In a recent interview with Wired, Feige reveals that Marvel has long-term plans and that they have projects mapped out for as far away as 2021.
“Five years ago, looking at our plan, we knew that if Avengers was going to work, the movies had to stand alone,” says Feige. “Now we have to prove to the studio that we’re more than just these five characters, these five franchises.”
With the way things are going, it’s not hard to imagine that Marvel is planning on shifting their focus away from comic books and into the big screen. While the idea is exciting at first, there is a tendency for some long time comic book fans to fear that it could lead to oversaturation of the market, which is something that they have already seen with the comic book medium.
