Not to be outdone by Iron Man 3 in the cast member announcements, The still untitled sequel to Thor has just announced the inclusion of Mads Mikkelsen in its cast, with the Danish star set to play a villain who will share Big Bad duties with Tom Hiddleston’s Loki.
The casting news further corroborates Kevin Feige’s earlier announcement that the God of Thunder would have another big villain to contend with besides Loki. Of course, the identity of the villain has not been revealed yet, which is probably good for the film as it will encourage fan speculation and hype.
As for the movie’s theme, Feige says that it will further flesh out Thor and Jane’s relationship, since the first movie was unable to give it much focus:
“[The heart of the movie is] Thor and Jane, to continue that dynamic,” says Feige. “Really they were only together for three days, and do they love each other? Do they like each other? Do they know each other? We’re acknowledging that that love story in the first movie was sort of a quick crush, essentially, over the course of three quick days in the middle of the desert.”
Thor 2 will open in the US on 15 November 2013, with a UK date to be confirmed.
