Both Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman have recently spoken out and expressed interest to see a third installment in the Hellboy movie franchise, citing the possibility of getting the picture made with Legendary Pictures, with Legendary’s Thomas Tull apparently interested in seeing a third film. However, Tull has also spoken out and revealed why the possibility is slim:
“Seeing how we don’t own the rights to Hellboy, there may be lawyers that would get upset about that,” said Tull in an interview with io9.com. “But you know, in Guillermo’s world, maybe he can make that go away. I don’t know. [Laughs]”
Currently, the film rights to Hellboy is owned by Columbia/Sony, so creating a sequel on Legendary’s turf may prove to be a little bit complicated, and could take some time. And that’s not counting the possibility that Sony might not want to let go of the franchise yet.
