In a recent interview with IGN, Marvel’s Kevin Feige has broken his silence over Marvel’s plans to bring Doctor Strange to the big screens, and has commented on fan speculation over the studio’s shortlist of directors.
“We’re meeting a lot of people now,” says Feige, before dismissing the specific names mentioned as mere speculation. “But we’re actively looking.”
“We always look at a wide range of people with a wide range of backgrounds. There’s only one criteria: do something that we think is really cool. That’s about it.”
Feige has also addressed the rumors linking Johnny Depp to the role, stating that the studio’s strategy for casting has never really required a big name movie star, but doesn’t rule it out:
“I think if you’re looking to track our decision-making and how we’ve done things, we have a pretty wide track record. So, no, a movie star is not required, but that doesn’t mean a movie star wouldn’t be great. It just depends.”
