When the movie rights to Punisher and Daredevil reverted back to Marvel, fans started speculating as to what the studio will do with the franchises, with the only thing they can be sure of being the fact that Marvel won’t let the rights go to another studio again, after realizing how lucrative the movies can be. While there are no short-term plans for the properties, Kevin Feige’s recent statement regarding the two licenses do reflect the studio’s newfound love for the prodigal IPs.
“We’re trying to figure out what to do with Daredevil now,” explains Feige of the long-awaited reboot, before whipping up speculation by musing that, “Punisher could show up at one point.”
“You know, once we get characters back into the Marvel fold we don’t want to do something right away,” continues Feige. “We want to do the smart thing at the smart time.”
Feige also revealed that he’ll be around for a while, as far as Marvel is concerned:
“I think it’ll be a while [before I leave],” reveals Feige, reassuringly. “At least through the next phase or so.” Long may his reign continue…
