It seems that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman’s tastes run counter to majority of his creation’s fanbase, as he has recently gone on record to support Michael Bay’s much-maligned (and recently put on hold) reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie franchise.
In case you’ve forgotten or missed the news the first time around, Bay’s planned reboot of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was criticized by fans all over the net due to the director’s statement that he will be retweaking the story in order to turn the protagonists into aliens from outer space instead of chemically-mutated turtles, and has also dropped the teenage part, effectively removing the “teenage” and the “mutant” from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in one fell swoop.
In a recent interview with MTV, Kevin Eastman defended Bay’s vision by stating:
“From what I’ve seen, it’s easily the best Turtle movie yet. We’re talking Raid: Redemption-style fight scenes; we’re talking about epic Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes sort of effects.”
“I know that Michael and his group really like [the changes] and that Paramount was supportive of that,” he continues, “so I think that it’s great. I grew up reading Captain America and The Avengers and all that stuff, and over the course of the comic book history, since Avengers has been around, how many times has it been reinvented, reformatted, restructured, replatformed?”
