Joss Whedon is a busy man these days, what with his work at Marvel’s phase two of comic book films. However, he still managed to talk to TV Line about his return to TV work via Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series. Whedon’s description of the show seems to be a poke at the current crop of forensics and crime dramas saturating the networks:

“I’m excited about the show because it’s a very hopeful show,” explains Whedon. “It’s not about murder, and it’s not about crime, and it’s not people looking into their own belly buttons.”

“It’s about people who are trying to help each other, and that’s one of the things I loved about comic books. They had costumes and the villains were cool [but] they stood for something, and I like doing a show that does that.”

Clark Gregg is confirmed to be reprising his role as Agent Coulson, but Whedon has clarified that the TV series won’t be a production line of familiar face, but it will feature one or two recognizable ones popping up along the way:

“Right now, I want to involve people in the characters that we’ve created for the show,” says Whedon, “and then we’ll worry about [cameos].”
