Sin City: A Dame to Kill For’s growing cast list has seen another big name addition, with Josh Brolin signing on to play Dwight, who was played Clive Owen’s character in the first film.
It’s not really that uncommon for characters in film franchises to drastically change in appearance due to changes in casting, but in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, Dwight’s transformation is actually a key plot in the story. It’s something that will be understood by people who already read the comic book.
“Dwight is one of the favourite characters from Miller’s books and the 2005 film. In Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, Dwight is hunted down by the only woman he ever loved, Ava Lord, and then watches his life go straight to hell. Chronologically, this story takes place prior to The Big Fat Kill and explains how Dwight came to have a dramatically different face.”
Co-directors Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller also released a joint statement, explaining that, “Dwight is a constant character throughout the Sin City world and A Dame To Kill For is a defining episode in his life. We’re looking forward to Josh’s take on Dwight.”
