Contrary to the seemingly smooth progress that the Robocop remake is showing lately – what with the big name stars queuing up one after the other – it seems that director Jose Padilha is actually having a really hard time behind the set. The director’s friend, Fernando Meirelles, reveals in an interview with Cinemacom Rapadura that Padilha is currently fighting for the movie he had in mind:
“I talked to José Padilha last week by phone,” said Meirelles in an interview with Cinemacom Rapadura. “He will begin filming RoboCop [but] he is saying that it is the worst experience. For every ten ideas he has, nine are cut. Whatever he wants, he has to fight [for].”
“‘This is hell here,’ he told me,” says Meirelles. “‘The film will be good, but I never suffered so much and do not want to do it again.’ He is bitter, but he’s a fighter.”
Of course, we have to take this with a grain of salt until we hear it from Padilha himself, especially since Mereilles’ comments were only translated into English and we may be missing something.
