Johnny Depp has been confirmed to have come on board as the lead for Wally Pfister’s directorial debut, the sci fi movie called Transcendence. Depp was already linked to the part when information about the movie was first released, with the official press release already serving as official confirmation. The female lead for the film is still unannounced, but the names being put forward include Rooney Mara, Emily Blunt, and Rebecca Hall.
Transcendence will follow the exploits of a husband and wife who managed to create the code for the world’s first sentient computer. When a group of technophobic activists try to assassinate the husband, the wife takes the natural precaution of uploading his brain to the computer. As the computer takes on the husband’s personality, it aids the wife in her attempt to escape her pursuers.
There’s no release dates yet, but Transcendence is scheduled to start shooting in April ahead of a 2014 release.
