Jackie Chan to Retire from High Risk Stunt Work

58-year-old Hong Kong legend Jackie Chan recently announced at the Cannes Film Festival that his upcoming movie Chinese Zodiac will be his last action picture, stating “I am not young any more. I am really, really tired,” at the press conference.

Chan also stated that he does not like the current levels of violence in movies, saying “The world is too violent right now. It’s a dilemma–I love fighting. I love action, but I don’t like violence.” Fans of Chan’s movies will notice that his statement is in line with his work, with his action scenes featuring a large number of martial arts and stunts, but does not contain any gore and depictions of death are very rare, and most of the time only shown if necessary to the plot.

Fans initially took Jackie Chan’s statements as an announcement that he will no longer act, but Chan clarified his Cannes statement in his facebook page, saying that he will not retire from action films as a whole, but will only take a step back from the kind of dangerous fighting scenes and stuntwork that has made him famous.
