According to a recent Deadline.com report, Legendary Pictures is eyeing Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson for the lead role in their upcoming reboot of Godzilla, which they claim will borrow more elements from the iconic Japanese version (compared to their last attempt, which is frowned upon by Kaiju purists as being too far from the source material).
The lead role for Godzilla has had a number of big name actors attached in the recent weeks, including DC Comics men-of-the-hours Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Henry Cavill. It’s said that Taylor-Johnson is the current front runner, but he won’t be making a final decision until Frank Darabont finishes his rewrite of the script. Not that Taylor-Johnson is desperately in need of projects, as he has had recent successful outings via Anna Karenina and Savages, and will be showing up on our big screens again with Kick Ass 2 looming.
Godzilla is expected to begin production in March 2013, with a scheduled release date of May 16, 2014.
