With The Dark Knight Rises effectively closing Nolan’s Dark Knight Trilogy, it’s time for us to pay more attention to another one of DC’s big three: Superman, which will be in a new movie courtesy of Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. And if star Henry Cavill is to be believed, fans of Nolan’s ultra realistic take on Batman will feel right at home with Snyder’s take on the last son of krypton.
“What I can say is that it’s a modernisation of the character and a very realistic view of one, obviously, very fantastic individual,” Cavill said.
“It’s an unreal situation, but it’s approached from a very practical viewpoint. We wanted to make the character easier to identify with.”
Another parallel is the fact that Cavill, like Christian Bale before him, is very much aware of just how much is riding on his shoulders with such a big role:
It’s important to do the role justice. There are a lot of people relying on me to do this well.
“I gladly accept that responsibility, and it’s a great one to have because it’s a wonderful opportunity.
“I don’t let the pressures get to me because that’s going to hinder my performance and, therefore, let people down. So I choose to ignore the pressure side of it and focus on doing justice to Superman.”
