After proving his chops with comic book movie adaptations, Guillermo del Toro has been invited by Warner Bros. to take his pick from their roster of available comic book movie projects. However, instead of going for the extremely hot Justice League property, del Toro has opted for another comic book adaptation, one that will also feature a super team devised entirely by himself:
Del Toro’s idea is to create a movie based on DC’s magical, monstrous, and ghostly superhero properties, which he tentatively titled Heaven Sent. The film would feature characters such as Hellblazer, Swamp Thing, The Spectre, Deadman, Phantom Stranger and many more to create a whole new property to rival both Justice League and The Avengers.
Currently, the project is not set in stone as there are tons of legal hurdles that need to be overcome due to the various properties involved, but Warner Bros. reportedly has its team of lawyers already working on disentangling the various rights conflicts in order to make the project possible.
