Disney, Marvel, and Netflix have recently announced plans to bring several original live-action adventures of four Marvel characters to the small screen, starting from 2015, with further plans to combine the series into one mega miniseries eventually (basically, a Netflix-exclusive version of Marvel’s Phase 1).
The characters they will be highlighting include Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage, with the shows focusing on “street-level” superheroes and villains operating in Hell’s Kitchen, New York. The final series will have the characters and their stories eventually converging into ‘The Defenders,’ as the heroes band together in order to fight a common enemy.
This seems like the perfect project that will finally give people a small screen taste of Marvel’s super hero franchise (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has an intentional dearth of costumed superheroics), something that DC has over them. Additionally, this could also serve as a platform to reintroduce characters that Marvel has recently reacquired from other studios (such as Ghost Rider).
