In a recent interview with the New York Times, Chronicle star Dane DeHaan has discussed the kind of preparation he had to do for his role in Amazing Spider-Man 2, which is Peter Parker’s friend/future enemy Harry Osborn.
The Harry Osborn character was played in the Sam Raimi trilogy of films by James Franco, and DeHaan reveals that he’s been bulking up in order to portray the character. The original announcement of DeHaan’s casting led many to believe that Marc Webb was going to portray Harry Osborn as a nerdier, slimmer version of the character (which wouldn’t have been a problem because Osborn Jr. is not an imposing physical presence, compared to Rhino) but with DeHaan’s comments, it seems like they’re going to make sure he’s a match for the lithe, tone physique that Andrew Garfield has.
“Right now it’s just about getting all my work done and bulking up a little bit. I’ll start shooting fairly soon in New York,” says DeHaan. “I work out incredibly intensely six days a week and I eat every two hours. Mostly proteins and veggies. I consume at least 3,000 calories a day. I’ve already gained seven pounds in six weeks! I weigh more right now than I’ve ever weighed in my whole life. I’ve always constantly had trouble putting on weight, so it’s actually a whole lot for me.”
