Despite some criticisms during its first few days, The Amazing Spider-man has shown itself every bit as resilient as the hero of the movie, netting $35m on its US opening, and with experts estimating that it will hit the $150m mark by the end of the weekend. It should then come as no surprise that Sony has given the greenlight for two more films in the franchise, giving us another comic book movie trilogy.
“The Amazing Spider-Man is the first instalment in a movie trilogy that will explore how our fave hero’s journey was shaped by the disappearance of his parents,” says a new post on the film’s official Facebook page.
Director Marc Webb has already talked about coming up with ideas for a second film, though it has not been confirmed if he will return for the next installments. However, considering the movie’s success, we won’t be surprised if he did get a phone call from Sony execs soon.
