Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-man may already have a pretty good villain in the form of The Lizard, but a recent comment from its producer Matt Tolmach let slip a few hints that the film may share a thread of continuity with Sony’s upcoming spin-off for the spidey film, Venom.
“I’m trying to say to you without giving anything away is hopefully all these worlds will live together in peace someday,” said Tolmach at a recent press conference for The Amazing Spider-Man. “Look for the worlds to make sense with one another.”
There’s currently no confirmation on whether there are obvious references to Venom in The Amazing Spider-man, but it’s not hard to believe that the studio wouldn’t want to think ahead and unify the continuity of sever comic book films, especially since Disney’s The Avengers has already proven how successful it can be as a way of extending the life of a franchise.
Meanwhile, Avi Arad has dropped a few hints as to what we can expect from the Venom film:
“It’s an Eddie Brock story,” says Arad. “We want to be as close to the comics as possible, especially in Eddie Brock’s story. But again, pseudo-science is becoming science. All these tidbits about webs, artificial webs, is a huge industry now.”
“Spider webs have unique qualities that will be huge for communications, fibers, and so forth,” he continues. “So we have taken the approach that we want to make this huge amazing movie about Eddie.”
