If you think the image is creepy, that only means you haven’t seen the video yet. Divabot, aka HRPC-4C, is a human… ish looking robot, built by Masataka Goto and the Institute of Advance Industrial Science and Technology. She can sing, she can dance, she can bop around with Spice Girls like motion, and easily surround herself by attractive Asian women who used to have dreams and aspirations of their own before bowing to their robot master.
The HRP uses synthesized voice technology, mimicking how us humans used to sound in the early 21st century. The angelic-yet-horrifying face completes the package, with the only “tell” of our impending doom being her clearly robotic goat legs. The facial expressions use Vocawatcher technology, which analyzed videos of actual singers to get the style down, hypnotizing audiences.
So, what’s the practical use of this biotechnology? Is there some kind of nanotechnology to be salvaged here, perhaps to cybernetically enhance an aging Madonna? Right the ship that Britney Spears wronged? Only time will tell.
