With Jon M. Chu out of the project, the planned Masters of the Universe movie is now busy hunting for a new director, with Sony reportedly already in possession of a shortlist for potential candidates. The shortlist includes four new names that could be sitting in the director’s chair soon – Harald Zwart, Jeff Wadlow, Chris McKay and Mike Cahill.
Jon M. Chu bowed out of the project almost half a year ago, citing scheduling conflicts as the reason. Zwarf seems to be the frontrunner right now, based on his successful run during Sony’s reboot of the Karate Kid franchise, as well as the adaptation of The Mortal Instruments.
The project currently has a script penned by Terry Rossio, last seen co-writing The Lone Ranger, with earlier contributions having been made by Alex Litvak and Mike Finch.
