The upcoming expansion to BioWare’s Star Wars: The Old Republic, titled Rise of the Hutt Cartel, includes a new planet called Makeb, which addresses the complaint that BioWare’s Star Wars games lack the option for same-sex romance (an option that is present in majority of BioWare’s AAA offerings). Though it seems like BioWare may have over-addressed the complaint, since Makeb is described as home to 100% of the galaxy’s homosexual population.
Segregating every single Star Wars character in the game to a single planet seems like a controversial step, but The Old Republic executive producer Jeff Hickman explains that giving LGBT characters a much more natural place in the game is more difficult than it sounds:
“Unfortunately, this will take a lot more work than we realized at the time and it (like some other pieces of content we talked about earlier in the year) has been delayed as we focused on the changes required to take the game Free-to-Play. As we have said in the past, allowing same gender romance is something we are very supportive of.”
Aside from the new LGBT planet, Rise of the Hutt Cartel also includes additional story content and raises the level cap to 55.
