Videogames didn’t fare as well as comic book properties when it comes to movie adaptations, with memories of numerous failed attempts during the 90s still fresh in people’s minds. However, Sony and Sega believe that it’s time for another attempt, as they are looking to bring the popular Sonic the Hedgehog property to the big screens.
Neil H. Moritz is currently attached as producer on an animated/live-action hybrid take on the franchise, with the animated aspects being handled by Japanese studio Marza Animation.
“There are limitless stories to tell with a character like Sonic The Hedgehog, and a built-in international fan base,” says Hannah Minghella, Sony’s Production President.
“Along with our wonderful creative partners at Marza, we’re looking to capture everything that generations of fans know and love about Sonic while also growing his audience wider than ever before.”
