Currently, we only have the Mario franchise as one of the confirmed Nintendo first party titles that will appear on the Wii U. When asked about what other franchises he wants to see on the new console, Shigeru Miyamoto talked about how Metroid would work on the new system:
“With Metroid it’s very easy to imagine some interesting implementation for Wii U. I think that having another screen with the gyro built in really gives you a lot of interesting opportunities for development, and we can bring a lot of our games to life in a completely unique way with that.”
While that’s not a direct statement announcing the return of the adventure platformer, it is still comforting to know that one of the Nintendo big wigs is at least considering how the title would work on their new system. Additionally, when asked about which IP he would like to bring back personally, Miyamoto answered Starfox.
Let’s just hope they don’t turn the next Starfox into an RPG or third person brawler while incorporating the flying and shooting stages as an afterthought like they did the last time.
