Fans of the Shin Megami Tensei/Persona franchise were thrown a curveball recently when it was announced that developer Atlus’ parent corporation, Index, was in going bankrupt. However, recent news points out that the goodwill earned by Atlus’ quality niche games and localizations means that other companies are willing to buy them out instead of letting the company dissolve. One of the more notable bidders is Sega, which is competing with 20 other companies according to a Bloomberg report.
There’s no word on whether Sega is the top bidder right now, but it is said that Atlus is currently worth around 20 billion yen, which is around $203 million US. More details will be made available by the end of the month, which is when the sale of Atlus will be finalized.
