People who criticize Nintendo for not being capable of adapting to current trends should shut up for a little bit now, as company president Satoru Iwata recently revealed that they’re jumping on the bandwagon of intercompany “X” crossovers, a sector which in recent years has been effectively cornered by the likes of Capcom, Konami, Namco, and SNK. Nintendo’s announcement came via one of their Nintendo Direct presentations, with Iwata revealing that they’re collaborating with Atlus for a title called “Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem.”
There’s no concrete detail yet, and Iwata’s teaser was only a quick video that shows Nintendo and Atlus’ respective series, but given Nintendo Direct’s track record with announcements, we can safely bet that this project will see the light of day. Iwata explains that the project will mark a new style of development that Nintendo will be dipping more into in the future. If he’s talking about collaborating more with other companies and franchises, we’re hoping it eventually leads into Super Mario vs. Dragonball Z: Zenkai Mushroom Kingdom Battle Jet.
