Many people these days have no idea just how big Mike Tyson was during the height of his career. Sure, you can do a little bit of searching on the Internet in order to get the backstory, but somehow all of his accomplishments will be buried under all the horrible (both horrible as in cringe-worthy and horrible in the truest sense of the word) things he did in the twilight of his career.
Back then, Mike Tyson was one of the handful of sports celebrities who were so iconic that they had games made about them. The main difference is that the other sports celebrities like Michael Jordan and Hulk Hogan had games where they are the protagonists. Mike Tyson was such a beast that he was the end boss in Mike Tyson’s Punch Out.
Fast forward to today, and a recent interview via Gamespot reveals that Mike Tyson didn’t really play his game back then, and even when he did, he wasn’t able to beat the first opponent, Glass Joe:
“I couldn’t even beat Glass f***ing Joe. I couldn’t beat Glass Joe; you know what I mean? I couldn’t even play the game. I’m a late bloomer. I started playing games in 2006, 2007.”
