Microsoft Studios has recently announced that they have acquired the rights to the Gears of War franchise, which was originally owned by creator Epic Games. The rights cover all of the existing games in the franchise as well as future ones. The development has been moved to Black Tusk Studios. The acquisition is not surprising, as it is probably made in an effort to keep the series exclusive to the Xbox.
The developer that will take over the franchise from Epic Games, Black Tusk, is based in Vancouver and will be bringing in former Epic Games exec producer and director of production Rod Fergusson, who has overseen the development of the first 3 games in the series. He will be working alongside Black Tusk general manager Hanno Lemke in overseeing the franchise in its new home.
