In spite of the high asking price (by Nintendo’s standards, at least), it seems like Nintendo’s upcoming console, the Wii U is going to have a very successful launching. According to an announcement by Gamestop, the videogame retail giant will no longer be taking pre-orders for the Wii U due to overwhelming demand. So folks who want to own one on launch day will have to pre-order elsewhere or wait for a little while longer.
While pre-orders on Gamestop have already stopped, they still have a special wait list exclusive to members of GameStop’s PowerUp Rewards program, in which members can put their names on the list without making a deposit, and they will get a call from Gamestop once the Wii U launches, giving them 48 hours to respond. While it’s not as foolproof as a pre-order, it’s still a lot better than nothing if Nintendo actually fails to manufacture enough Wii Us to meet the demands.
