New Free to Play SoulCalibur Game Scheduled for the Playstation 3 0

According to Japanese game magazine Famitsu, a new free to play fighting game based on the SoulCalibur franchise will be making its way to the Playstation 3 later this year, titled SoulCalibur: Lost Swords. The only characters confirmed so far are Siegfried and Mitsurugi, and there are no specifics about the monetized aspects of the game, although some sort of unlockable or downloadable model for new characters are to be expected.

Freemium (free to play, subsidized by in-game purchases of premium content) fighting games are not as prevalent as they are in MMORPGs, but it’s not entirely a new thing either as other popular properties like DC Comics, Tekken, and Mobile Suit Gundam also use the model, by way of Injustice: Gods Among Us iOS, Tekken Revolution and Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation. It is worth pointing out that all three games also tend to limit the amount of free play sessions through expendable energy, which will refill over time or can be refilled instantly through in-game purchases using real money.
