It seems like EA is starting to work towards regaining the favor of gamers everywhere, as they have recently decided to drop a universally hated form of DRM (that they started in the first place), the Online Pass. Not that there’s an altruistic reason for doing so. EA’s John Reseburg stated that it’s simply not working as well as they expected it to:
“Initially launched as an effort to package a full menu of online content and services, many players didn’t respond to the format. We’ve listened to the feedback and decided to do away with it moving forward.”
So before you start hanging pictures of EA on your wall again, it simply started affecting their image with the fans. It wouldn’t be surprising if they just go ahead and create a different form of DRM.
