Bono’s disastrous Spider-Man musical may have already soured the idea of mixing Superheroes and live theatrical plays together for everyone older than 8, but this Batman Live trailer looks interesting. For one thing, Bono’s not involved. And another: I don’t see anyone singing. Yet.
The trailer doesn’t really reveal that much but it looks okay so far. In my opinion, stage plays, particularly musicals, have a very bad effect on superhero stories, as they tend to accentuate the silly aspects of spandex-clad superheroism. Did you think the guys in West Side Story looked lame while sashaying and prancing around instead of actually fighting each other? Imagine if those guys were doing the same thing, while wearing skintight suits with the underwear on the outside? You get my point.
According to its official site (batmanlive.com), Batman Live is based on an original story being created exclusively for the show, and will feature “thrilling stunts, acrobatic acts and illusions.” That seems okay, I guess. I see no mention of singing.
Batman Live will tour the U.K. and Europe from July before opening in North America in 2012. Book tickets at their official site: http://www.BatmanLive.com
